Uniden R3 Visions refurb laser falses (Version 1.63)

I have been driving with my R3 for exactly a week now and have gotten 3 laser false alerts in my week of driving. Two of the times when it falsed I was at a stopsign with nobody else around and the other being on a stretch of road with a newish Honda civic.
When I did unbox my R3 I noticed some sort of blueish thin silicone around the front laser sensor that was falling off so I wonder if that had something to do with it.
Thoughts?
