Help with new R7

So I've had my r7 for about a month now and there's a few issues I'm having with it. It's my first Uniden, so not sure if it's just how Uniden is or if there's an issue with my unit that I need to contact uniden about. I've set it according to vortex's recommendations for the most part with a few tweaks here and there.

First issue is the detection from the front isn't great in terms of range and not very accurate. It's mounted right under my rear view mirror and the windshield isn't tinted...
