Splicing wires

Hello all. I purchased a car with the Passport Max ci 360 system already installed. I need to remove a center console panel where the control module is mounted (it seems to be mounted with hot glue). I was thinking about cutting the wire and then splicing it when ready to re-install the panel, but the official installation manual warns against this. I can't think of a reason why this wouldn't work if done correctly.

Has anyone done this successfully?
